Dubai's DP world are going full steam ahead with their London Gateway development, which will include Europe's largest logistics park.
The privately funded project, located 25 miles east of London on the Thames Estuary just outside Thurrock in Essex, is expected to create 36,000 direct and indirect jobs. It includes plans for a 9.25m sq ft of rail-connected distribution buildings on the 1,500 acre site.
In a stock market announcement, the UK-listed DP World said: "DP World has today anounced that their new development in the UK, London Gateway, will become operational in the fourth quarter of 2013 with an initial capacity of 1.6m TEU.
"London Gateway will be Britain's most environmentally friendly major new deep-sea port adjacent to what is set to be Europe's largest Logistics Park.
"London Gateway is located closer to the UK's largest consumer markets of Lodnon and the South East enduring that UK business will soon be able to take advantage of a more cost effective way of getting the nation's goods to consumers. DP World is expecting to invest a further $1bn over the next three years."
Ask-re are active locally for landowners progressing plans for their own bio-waste, leisure and commerncial development complex on 80 acres near Lakeside. Financial appraisals are proceeding together with finalisation of the partnership arrangements, which are likely to include the local authority.
This is another piece of the continuing story of the major development taking place in East London and a great expression of confidence in the UK and London economies.
