The Regent Street Vision wins mayoral recognition at planning and development awards
By Ashley Brunskill
One of London's busiest retail and commercial areas was won an award for its planning and development.
The Regent Street Vision picked up the mayor's Award for Planning Excellence at the annual London Planning Awards.
Recognition was given for the project's ability to combine modern architecture and bringing it up to international retail and commercial standards in terms of "floor space and public realm" whilst maintaining the heritage of the street's historic buildings.
In particular, the vision was hailed for making a statement about sending a "clear message about the type of city the Mayor wants to London to become".
David Shaw, head of the Regent Street property portfolio at The Crown Estate said he was "delighted" with the award and said the time and money spent on the planning and development had "brought the street back to its former glory".
Regent Street represents a small proportion of the state-owned portfolio, which stretches nationwide and is valued at around £6 billion.
