Parties encouraged to express their interest in future planning and development of Olympic Stadium

By Ashley Brunskill

Planning and development of the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 games took a major step forward as organisations were invited to express their interest in the site.

The Olympic Park Legacy Company is asking for organisations or consortiums interested in taking over the area to make their case over the next eight weeks.

OPLC's chief executive Andrew Altman is clear about what the site should mean to local residents.

He added: "The Olympic Stadium is a truly iconic structure that should be a focal point for sport and community-led events including schools, clubs and creative and social enterprises."

West Ham United's co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan have criticised the idea of maintaining athletics' legacy before but now appear to be on board as they seek a joint venture with Newham Council.

Its idea for planning and development of the site now includes an Olympic Visitor Centre and a football museum.

It is thought, combined with the new Westfield shopping centre coming to area, that it may become a highly popular visitor attraction.
