New £4.5 billion development, approved by London mayor, will bring around 27,000 jobs during construction

A planning and development scheme to rejuvenate part of north London has been approved by the mayor of London.
The plans for Brent Cross include a significant expansion of Brent Cross shopping centre and a new train station to improve transport links with the centre of London.
Proposals will also involve the building of new schools, healthcare facilities, parks and 7,500 new homes in the Brent Cross area.
In addition, around 27,000 jobs will be created in the area and the package will include skills training for some of those opportunities. The full development will take around 20 years to complete.
London mayor Boris Johnson believed that the plans would vastly improve the lives of thousands of Londoners. He also said that improved transport links "will bring fluidity and rejuvenation to Brent Cross".
Outline plans were approved by Barnet Council in November and despite some opposition from local groups, it is hoped the site will provide much needed growth for the local economy.
