A new Carbon Charter which audits Suffolk businesses could see facilities management in the county go green.

Businesses which reduce their energy consumption will be recognised under a new Carbon Charter, it has been revealed.

Facilities management could be set to get greener in the county as firms will be given a bronze, silver or gold rating depending on their energy efficiency.

Gold means that robust facilities management and other measures have resulted in "exemplary reductions", as well as a commitment to spread the message of going green, the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce said.

Speaking at the launch of the Carbon Charter, John Dugmore, chief executive of the chamber, told the East Anglian Daily Times that "reducing the amount of carbon you emit is one of the fastest, most effective ways to save your business money and deliver you clear commercial and lasting benefit to your company".

The charter is supported by the chamber, the Environment Agency and Suffolk County Council.

It is hoped that all businesses will be able to achieve the bronze level - that is showing initial engagement and a commitment to reduce energy usage.
