Better facilities management may minimise damage from poor weather

Thursday, January 14, 2010

Improved facilities management could minimise the damage caused by severe weather conditions.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has called on the government to review its planning strategies to deal better with extreme weather conditions.

Many businesses may already have made changes to their facilities management to deal with snow and icy conditions to prevent their business from coming to a standstill.

The FSB added that it wants to see discussion between transport and salt mining companies, schools, local authorities and the business community to prevent a repeat of the estimated £600 million per day losses seen in recent weeks.

John Wright, national chairman of the FSB, said: "Small businesses have shown how resilient and resourceful they are by trying to put in place plans for flexible working and by allowing staff to work from home."

He added that it is time the economy stopped coming to a halt during these emergencies and pulled together to find ways to "Keep Britain Moving".

The British Chambers of Commerce recently suggested that businesses should be cautious in the current economic climate.
