Calls have been made for the government to relocate its civil servants to the East End of London to go along with its regeneration of the area.
The proposal was made by the mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales following a government report made on Monday (December 7th) where the suggestion was made that Whitehall staff may be relocated to other areas of the UK.
Relocation to the area may be a viable idea as Newham Council has suggested that Stratford and Canning Town - both currently in process of regeneration - are taken in the government's consideration.
Sir Robin said: "We have huge benefits to offer the Government in terms of relocation. Nowhere else in the UK is undergoing transformation on the scale of Newham."
He added that more than 2,000 Newham Council staff have recently completed commercial relocation into a single building in the areas Royal Docks and that the move proved to be hugely cost effective.
The Environment Agency recently suggested that ground source heat pumps should be part of the planning and development process.
