The City of York Council has agreed a commercial relocation deal for its new headquarters in the city.

One of the oldest railway station buildings in the UK, spanning 150,000 sq ft will be the local authority's new home.

Buccleuch Property development director Sandy Smith said: "Our plans respect York's historic and railway heritage but offer modern, functional, sustainable accommodation that will deliver the operational cost savings the council is seeking."

The council will be based in the grade II-listed 1840s structure, along with a new open-plan space as part of a refurbishment of the building, which has been BREEAM "excellent" rated.

Staff from 16 buildings will be relocated in the new headquarters, which will act as the main base for council services and should reduce costs.
It has recently been announced that the Anglo Irish Bank has selected the Delancey-backed Centros for the asset management of the Houndshill shopping centre in Blackpool.
